Anadarko Petroleum (APC) - Niobrara Shale - Codell - Watternberg Field

By Tim - http://oilshalegas.com

Anadarko Petroleum (APC) provided an oil & natural gas drilling update on the Niobrara Shale located in Colorado & Wyoming.

In November 2011, Anadarko updated the resource potential of its horizontal Niobrara and Codell opportunities in the liquids-rich Wattenberg field of northeastern Colorado. Based upon the results of this horizontal drilling program, the company announced a net resource potential within the Wattenberg field of 500 million to 1.5 billion BOE, with significant additional potential outside the field boundaries. Anadarko is currently operating five horizontal rigs in the Wattenberg field and two additional horizontal rigs that are evaluating liquids-rich opportunities in Wyoming's Powder River Basin. To enhance the strategic alignment of its upstream and midstream assets in Colorado, Anadarko acquired the Wattenberg Plant in March 2011. This acquisition, combined with Western Gas Partners, LP's (WES) acquisition of the Platte Valley Plant and WES's ownership of the Fort Lupton Plant, along with other midstream assets, is enabling continued growth and value-enhancing opportunities within the Wattenberg field and greater DJ Basin.

Laramie County, WY: Niobrara Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

Continental Resources Inc. (CLR) has to date, leased roughly 60,000 net acres in the Niobrara shale in both Colorado and Wyoming and they are still actively leasing. Continental Resources recently announced that they will spot their first well in the Niobrara shale play in the 4th quarter of 2010. Jeff Hume, president and COO expressed his excitement and positive outlook in the Niobrara shale play:

"The Niobrara is a huge crude oil resource play. It covers over 3 million acres and has a potential to produce more than 2 billion barrels of oil. We’ve established a strategic position in the play, leasing almost 60,000 net acres and continue to acquire result. We hold acreage in Platt, Laramie, and Goshen Counties in Wyoming and a well count in Colorado...Niobrara development is currently on 640 spacing and we believe the play can accommodate 1280s. We plan to spot our first Niobrara well in the fourth quarter. Continental’s entry into the Niobrara is a natural strategic fit with our expertise and experience in horizontal oil resource plays."

Laramie County, Wyoming: Niobrara Shale update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

Rex Energy Corporation (REXX) recently released an update on the Niobrara Shale in Laramie County, WY:

A large portion of their acreage is located in close proximity to the Silo Field in Laramie County, Wyoming. The Silo Field has been producing Niobrara Field of approximately 90 horizontal wells, which were built predominantly in the 1990s. Although these wells were drilled sometime ago with short laterals and single stage openhole completions, in most cases they still average in EURs of approximately 160,000 barrels of oil.

Most recently, SM Energy formerly St. Mary's reported their Atlas 1-19H well in the southern part of the Silo Field which was drilled with a longer lateral and completed using modern techniques produced at initial rate of approximately 1,000 barrels a day, far upsetting the historically well production in the field.

In late July, Rexx Energy spud their first horizontal Niobrara Shale well in the Basin which is currently drilling. The well is planned to have a 4,000 foot lateral section and they plan to complete it with a 10 to 12 stage frac. While it is still early in the play, they are optimistic that this project will become a significant asset the company.

Carrizo Oil and Gas Inc.(CRZO): Barnett Shale update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. (CRZO) released an update on the Barnett recently in their 2010 2Q Earnings Call.

"Our production for the quarter came in ahead of forecast due to the faster clean-up and better initial response of new Barnett wells completed during the quarter and the optimal management of the producing wells at our facility on the University of Texas at Arlington campus during completion activities. We are now in the final stages of completing the last 8 wells on this 22 well pad. We moved one of our Helmerich & Payne rigs out of the Barnett Shale to drill our initial three horizontal Eagle Ford Shale wells in LaSalle County. We have reached total depth on our first well and are finishing up the second, both with lateral legs of over 5,000'. The information generated during the course of drilling these wells is encouraging and we expect to move the rig to the third well following completion of drilling the second well. We plan to frac and complete these wells later this year. We have had some success in adding acreage in both the Eagle Ford and Niobrara plays recently. We currently own around 17,000 acres in the Eagle Ford and 58,000 acres in the northern D. J. Basin prospective for Niobraraoil. We expect that our first Niobrara well should spud in September and we hope to drill three horizontal wells in this play by the end of the year. We have contracted an additional rig to initiate our development drilling in Pennsylvania with our new partner Reliance Industries, and are on track for a September start date."

EOG Resources, Inc. (EOG): Niobrara Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

EOG Resources, Inc. (EOG), released an update on their activity in the Niobrara Shale:

August, 2010: We also have some new data on our Colorado Niobrara play. We've completed two additional wells, the Critter Creek #02-03H and #04-09H, and they're producing at managed restricted rates of 570 and 600 barrels of oil per day, respectively. We have 100% working interest here. We have four rigs running in this play. But as we've previously stated, we want to observe production from these and earlier wells until year end, before we make a reserve estimate because the reservoir is heavily fractured. In Southwest Kansas, we also recently completed two nice shallow vertical wells with 100% working interest. The Cynthia 35-1 IPed at 1,700 barrels of oil per day, and the Brookover 8-2 well IPed at 260 barrels of oil per day. Several offsets to these wells are planned for the second half of the year.

Laramie County, Wyoming: Niobrara Shale

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

SM Energy (SM) announced the completion of their first well in the Niobrara Shale:

SM Energy completed its first horizontal well targeting the Niobrara in mid-May 2010. The Atlas 1-19H (SM 94% WI), which is located just south of the Silo Field in Laramie County, Wyoming, was drilled to a vertical depth of roughly 8,000 ft and a total measured depth of approximately 12,000 ft. The 7-day initial production average for the well was 1,075 BOE/d, and as of July 27, 2010, the well was making roughly 500 BOPD. SM Energy is currently working to secure a drilling rig to drill a second test well in this program later this year. The Company has approximately 25,000 net acres leased in this portion of the Niobrara play, which is located in the northern part of the Denver-Julesburg Basin.
