Greene County, PA - Marcellus Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

EQT Corporation (EQT) recently reported and update on the Marcellus Shale in Greene County and Armstrong County, PA:

In Greene County, PA, EQT Corporation (EQT) reported an average 30-day production rate of 22 MMcfe per day from the Cooper 590384 well. The well has a total lateral length of 9,000 feet, with 8,411 feet of stimulated pay, and was completed using a 28-stage frac. The direct well cost was approximately $7.1 million, with a preliminary estimated ultimate recovery of 18 Bcf. As noted on EQT's most recent conference call, this well was in process of being completed in late July.

EQT also announced today, the successful results of the Rosborough 590259 well in Armstrong County, PA. This well reported a 24-hour IP of 15 MMcfe from 4,060 feet of stimulated pay.

"These exceptional wells are the direct result of our culture of innovation at EQT," commented Steven Schlotterbeck, President, EQT Exploration & Production. "The success of the Greene County extended lateral well is an important step in our effort to decrease the development cost per Mcfe. In addition to extending the lateral, we are experimenting with closer spacing intervals than our current 1,000 foot lateral spacing design in Greene County.

"The results in Armstrong County, where EQT holds nearly 34,000 acres, are especially encouraging as this well employed a new completion design resulting in initial flow rates significantly better than nearby wells completed conventionally. The success of these two experimental wells is a testament to the quality of our acreage position and to the outstanding capabilities of the technical and operating teams at EQT," said Schlotterbeck.

EQT holds a 100% working interest and an 87.5% net revenue interest in both wells.

Philadelphia, PA: Marcellus shale Pipeline update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

As Marcellus Shale gas grows in popularity throughout Pennsylvania, operators are worried about transportation of the natural asset. However, a solution is underway thanks to Sunoco Logistics Partners. Sunoco recently struck a deal with Markwest Energy Partners (MWE) to transport ethane produced in the Marcellus shale to a Delaware River facility for shipment by sea to the Gulf coast. The terminal will be refrigerated to store supercooled ethane at one of Sunoco's existing facilities.

The plan is for Markwest to construct a 45-mile pipeline from Houston, PA and connect it with Sunoco's existing 8-inch diameter pipeline in Delmont, PA. That liquid-fuels pipeline crosses Pennsylvania to connect to Sunoco production facilities in the Philadelphia area.

Deborah M. Fretz, chief executive officer of Sunoco Logistics, said the company's underused pipeline "is well-positioned to provide an efficient solution for producers to move ethane across Pennsylvania to a Delaware River marine port to access multiple markets."

The project will have the capacity to transport up to 50,000 barrels per day of ethane - 2.1 million gallons - when it starts up in 2012.

There is no information yet on the cost or the project or on earnings projections.

EOG Resources, Inc. (EOG) Marcellus Shale Joint Venture?

By Andrea - http://oilshalegas.com

Based on their 2010 Earnings call, EOG Resources, Inc. (EOG) is strongly considering a JV opportunity in the Marcellus Shale. While the venture is not yet a definite, CEO Marc Papa claims to have an answer by the end of the year:

"The one that's on a bit faster track is the Marcellus, and we will be looking at an organized approach to screen interested parties to look and see if we can bring someone in there. And so I would say, the Marcellus, by year end, we should have an answer as to: Are we going to do one? And if so, what are the terms?"

EOG Resources, Inc. (EOG) currently has about 230,000 net acres primarily in Pennsylvania in the Marcellus Shale, and primarily in North Western Pennsylvania in the Marcellus Shale.

Lycoming County PA - Marcellus Shale: Range Resources

October 14, 2009 - Range Resources Corp. (RRC) has come out with an operational update on the Marcellus Shale today and it appears the company is starting to drill in Lycoming County, PA.

Range Resources Corp. (RRC) Operational Update - 10/14/09

During the third quarter, the Marcellus Shale division continued to make excellent progress. Recently, we added two key members to our Marcellus team. Joe Frantz has been added as Vice President of Engineering and Scott Roy has been added as Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs. Both are leaders in their fields and bring substantial experience. The Marcellus Division is continuing to delineate and de-risk its large land position. We expect initial results from these two wells by early next year. We also plan to drill a Utica Shale horizontal and a shallow upper Devonian horizontal before year-end. Results of these two wells should be available by early first quarter.

Marcellus Shale production is well on plan and now exceeds 80 Mmcfe per day net and is expected to approach the higher end of the previously revised target of 90 - 100 Mmcfe per day net by year-end 2009. From inception, Range has drilled 77 horizontal Marcellus Shale wells, of which 60 have been completed and 54 are on production. The Company expects to drill and case approximately 20 additional horizontal wells in the Marcellus Shale play during the fourth quarter 2009 and carryover approximately 20 of these for completion in 2010. The Marcellus division is currently running a total of four horizontal rigs. We anticipate entering 2010 with six custom-built horizontal rigs. Full Press Release

Recycling Frac Water - Marcellus Shale PA

As you know, Pennsylvania has really cracked down on companies who are drilling in the Marcellus Shale as they do not want to contaminate the environment from the result of bad drilling practices.

One company, Equitable Resources ( EQT ), is starting a project to recycle frac water located in the Marcellus Shale. Equitable hopes to have this project done by the third quarter of 2009.

What is frac water? There are many different way to drill a natural gas shale well. The most common way it to blast a fresh water/sand combination at the shale it self in order to fracture it. Once this process is completed, the water becomes contaminated. It must be pumped back out and stored. To prevent a potential water shortage, Equitable is trying to recycle the water so it can be used over again.

( From Seeking Alpha ) - And then the last question is with the change in the administration and Congress, we are hearing some noise about on the environmental issues, water, and even possible making some noise about regulating fracture stimulation. Any thoughts on that?

Unidentified Company Representative

Well, yes, I’ll save the obvious ones, but what we are going to do, and I mentioned this a few times on the road recently, is we are in the process of building a recycling plant for Marcellus, water handling, we hope it will be up in the third quarter, or maybe a little earlier during this year. We are going to try to recycle that water.

Now that doesn’t address, which is the one concern that some people have that we are hurting the aquifer with salt water from the cracks. I hope adults will finally come to the conclusion that we've been doing that for 70 years now, and haven't damaged any aquifer, but forget about all that, we are trying to recycle as much of that frac water as we possibly can.

And, you know, drill more wells from the same pad so that you can reuse the water. We are going to do pan drilling, it is going to help in the Marcellus, recycling is going to help in the Marcellus, but we are focusing more of our attention on the disposal of the water, rather than the acquisition of the water.

Marcellus Shale: ATN Atlas Energy Washington PA

Atlas Energy ( ATN ) has come out and given shareholders a drilling update on the Marcellus Shale. Atlas Energy is currently active in the following Pa counties: Washington, Greene, Fayette.

Atlas Energy ATN announces today that it has completed a vertical well in the Marcellus Shale that produced a record 5 million cubic feet of natural gas into a pipeline over a 24-hour period and, after 25 days of production, has produced approximately 81 million cubic feet. Atlas completed this well using a two-stage frac design that it pioneered earlier this year, which was drilled on the Company's own account. The Company has now successfully completed seven two-stage vertical fracs in the Marcellus Shale and has averaged initial rates of production for 24 hours of 2.5 million cubic feet per day. The Company intends to complete all future vertical Marcellus wells with similar multi-stage fracs. Atlas has performed over 100 vertical Marcellus completions.
"These results reflect not only the effectiveness of our completion designs, but also the quality of our acreage," stated Richard D. Weber, President and Chief Operating Officer. "The potential of horizontal wells having frac designs with up to eight stages is very exciting given the exceptional results from our two stage verticals."
Atlas is also currently operating an extensive horizontal Marcellus program and expects to complete 12 wells by early in the second quarter of 2009. Ten of these wells will be drilled in a 50/50 joint venture with an industry partner in Washington County, Pennsylvania. The remaining two wells will be drilled in eastern Greene and western Fayette counties of Pennsylvania in an industry consortium where Atlas will have a 25% working interest. In each case, Atlas will be the operator. The Company is currently running two horizontal rigs. The first two wells have been drilled and cased to 2,400 feet and 3,800 feet, respectively, and will be completed and turned into line in January.
In addition, Atlas continues to hedge the price it receives for its natural gas production, with hedges in place through 2013 at prices ranging from approximately $8.00 to $9.00 per mcf. The Company's hedge positions for 2009 and 2010 account for approximately 79% and 63%, respectively, of its recently disclosed production volume for the third quarter of 2008.

Marcellus Shale: Rex Energy Provides Update

Rex Energy Corporation (REXX) provided an operational update today on its Marcellus Shale activities and 2009 capital budget.

The company is pleased to announce initial flow rates for its first two vertical test Marcellus Shale wells completed in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. These wells, drilled in the deeper portion of the Marcellus play, had peak flow rates of 400 and 1,200 Mcf per day respectively before being turned into sales. Each well continues to stabilize at daily production rates of 300 - 500 Mcf per day, and the high operating pressures suggest increased production is likely with further production facility optimization. The company's third vertical test well in Westmoreland County has been drilled and will be completed by mid-December.

In Clearfield County, Pennsylvania the company has recently completed drilling its first vertical test well encountering approximately 150 feet of Marcellus Shale formation. The company expects to complete the well in late December. Additionally, in Butler County, Pennsylvania area, the company participated in the drilling of two additional vertical wells with its partner. Both wells are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2009 following installation of the company's gas processing facility.

Marcellus Shale - Water Issues getting Solved 9/12/08

Six companies exploring for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale received approval Thursday to draw 30 million gallons of water per day from the Susquehanna River Basin.

Thursday’s approvals increased the amount of water gas companies can remove from the basin to more than 41 million gallons daily, or enough water to fill nearly 70 Olympic-size swimming pools every day. Two other companies were previously authorized to draw 11 million gallons daily.

The agency that regulates water withdrawals from the basin, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, approved the applications at a meeting at Bucknell University

Marcellus Shale: Wyoming County, PA landowners sign - 8/14/08

A packed Tunkhannock Area High School auditorium buzzed on Wednesday evening with one topic: natural-gas lease profits.

The rush is on in western Wyoming County, with the Wyoming County Landowners’ Group and its more than 45,000 acres in the gas-filled Marcellus Shale region recently accepting a lease agreement with the Unit and Citrus oil and gas drilling companies.
Landowners signed for $2,850 per acre sign-on bonuses, minus consultant payments, for five-year leases with 17 percent drilling royalties. If the lands aren’t drilled within five years, there are two one-year extensions each for $1,000 per acre.
The deal was brokered by Jack Sordoni and Chris Robinson, both oil and gas drillers in western Pennsylvania. The terms of the lease provide them with 15 percent of the $590-per-acre sign-on bonus increase they brokered from the $2,260 per acre the land group initially negotiated.
