Cubic Energy Inc. (QBC) announced today that they spud their 4th horizontal well today in the Haynesville shale:
Cubic Energy Inc. (QBC) announced that the Red Oak Timber 7-1 ALT spud on August 6, 2010 with surface casing set at 1,903 feet. This well is located in Section 7, Township 14 North Range 15 West in Caddo Parish, Louisiana located in Cubic s Bethany Longstreet acreage. Cubic has an estimated 29% working interest in this well.
Calvin Wallen III, Cubic’s CEO and President, stated, "This is Cubic’s fourth Horizontal Haynesville Shale well to be drilled under our existing drilling credit and the sixteenth Horizontal Haynesville Shale well in which Cubic has a working interest."

Haynesville Shale: Caddo Parish, Louisiana - Cubic Energy
Today, 1/28/09, Cubic Energy ( QBC ) has come out and given an updates on an additional well being drilled in the Haynesville Shale. This well is located in Caddo Parish, LA.
Cubic Energy (QBC) announces today it has accepted a proposal to participate in the horizontal drilling of Chesapeake Energy's ( CHK ) Clingman Acres 11H well. This well is located in the Johnson Branch Field of Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and will be horizontally drilled to a measured depth of 17,000 feet, followed by a Haynesville Shale completion.
The Clingman Acres 11H is located in Section 11, Township 15 North - Range 15 West in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, which is adjacent to the east side of Cubic's Johnson Branch Acreage. Cubic has an estimated 2.8% working interest in the well.
Cubic currently has 12 wells producing in its Johnson Branch acreage, and 10 wells producing in its more southern acreage position of Bethany Longstreet in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.
Calvin Wallen III, Cubic's President and Chief Executive Officer stated, ``The Clingman Acres 11H will be located on the eastern edge of Cubic's Johnson Branch Acreage. This area has been proven, through Cubic's vertical drilling and Chesapeake's horizontal drilling, to be extremely prolific in the Haynesville Shale. We are very excited to have yet another opportunity for Horizontal Haynesville Shale development.''

Haynesville Shale: Caddo Parish, Louisiana Goodrich Petroleum GDP Well
Goodrich Petroleum ( GDP ) has announced a completion of a new Haynesville Shale well in Caddo Parish Louisiana. 14.5 MMcf's!
GDP has completed its initial horizontal Haynesville Shale well, the Chesapeake Energy Corporation-operated Holland 17H-1, which tested at a rate of approximately 14.5 MMcf per day on a 24/64 inch choke with 6,000 psi. The well, which was drilled to 16,200 feet, had a horizontal displacement of approximately 4,400 feet (3,800 feet cased), and is located in the Company's Bethany-Longstreet area in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Goodrich owns a 50% working interest in the well, Chesapeake owns 40% and Plains Exploration & Production Company owns 10%.
ANGELINA RIVER TREND
The Company has completed its Estes 2H (100% WI), a James Lime horizontal well on its Cotton South prospect area, which tested at 7.0 MMcf per day on a 35/64 inch choke with 1,500 psi.

Haynesville Shale: Caddo Parish Residents Getting Nothing
More disturbing news out of the Haynesville Shale in Caddo Parish. Residents who signed mineral rights contracts aren't getting paid.
Thousands of Caddo Parish residents have cashed in on the Haynesville Shale. Greenwood property owners hoped to make big bucks off their mineral leases. But Monday, they found out they're not getting a dime.
People from Greenwood signed leases at $22,500 an acre. Monday, they learned Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) is not funding their lease bonus drafts.

With crashing stock markets and energy prices....many companies are looking to get out of the shale plays lately. I had a feeling this was going to happen. It was almost like a bubble when every company and their mother was buying up mineral rights in the Haynesville Shale natural gas field.
Cubic Energy ( QBC ) announces today that due to ever increasing unsolicited interest in the Company's assets in North Louisiana, the Company has engaged RBC Richardson Barr Securities, Inc., an affiliate of Royal Bank of Canada Capital Markets ("RBC") to explore all strategic alternatives on behalf of the Company and its shareholders. The Company's asset position in Caddo and DeSoto Parishes includes the Rodessa, Pettet, Upper and Lower Hosston, Cotton Valley and the Haynesville Shale. In addition, there is significant interest in the Company's gathering and pipeline systems.
As the Company now holds substantially all of its acreage by production, and has completed its own pipelines and infrastructure, the Company is afforded the opportunity to evaluate all its options in order to increase shareholder value.

Haynesville Shale - Wilcox Aquifier could be affected
The feds' could soon get involved in keeping track of underground water levels affected by drilling in the Haynesville Shale.
Ben McGee with the U.S. Geological Survey met with Caddo officials Friday morning, including commissioners and Parish Administrator Woody Wilson.
The parish may ask the U.S.G.S. to do another study on the Wilcox Aquifer and the long-term effects that gas drilling could have on water levels.
"Bottom line is, it's not hard to stress the Wilcox Aquifer," said McGee, a supervisory hydrologist with the U.S.G.S., who used 2005 study figures in his discussion with parish leaders.
The Wilcox Aquifer accounts for 25-percent of the water supply for Caddo Parish, used primarily in rural, farming areas. Also in attendance, Gary Hanson, who is director of the Red River Watershed Management Institute and Professor of Geology at LSU-Shreveport. He described the Wilcox Aquifer as slow to re-charge (re-fill). Its saving grace, compared to a 'confined' aquifer, is the fact it is a 'surface water re-charge aquifer,' replenished largely by rain water over a large surface area.

Haynesville Shale - Louisiana Lease Sale 2nd Highest Ever ( 93.8 million ) Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, De Soto Parish
Since the Louisiana Lease Board began keeping records back in 1969, there has only been one sale that was higher then the 93.8 million dollar sale yesterday 8-13-08. The Haynesville Shale is hot, that is all you can really say right now. The record? Year 1980 with a record 157.7 according to the LLB.
Companies have been flocking to the northwest Louisiana area in pursuit of mineral rights agreements so they may explore the Haynesville Shale for Natural Gas.
4,700 acres were sold in the following areas: Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, DeSoto and Red River.
Something tells me the Haynesville Shale is expanding rapidly. I even think the core area could be getting bigger. Heck, the CEO of Chesapeake Energy is on the record saying he believe one day down the road, the core zone area of the Haynesville shale could pay $50,000 per acre. Wow!
