Montney Shale Formation Update: British Columbia Canada

By Tim - http://oilshalegas.com

Canadian Spirit Resources Inc. (CSPUF.PK) has recently updated shareholders on the Montney Shale located in British Columbia, Canada.

The joint venture increased its Montney rights from 47 sections to 51 sections (gross). CSRI now has approximately 30 net sections of Montney rights in the Farrell Creek area of northeastern British Columbia.

The Operator, Canbriam Energy BC Partnership ("Canbriam"), continues to progress with the $49.0 million (gross) capital program for 2010.

The c-A48-I well was stimulated in the lower portion of the Montney Formation. With only two stages flowing, the well had an initial production rate of 3.5 mmcf/d, and a stabilized rate of 2.0 mmcf/d over a seven day period.

An additional upper Montney horizontal leg will also be drilled and completed from the existing wellbore at c-A48-I by year-end.

The first of two horizontal wells targeting the upper portion of the Montney Formation has been drilled and cased from the c-18-I pad. A second well, from the same pad, is currently being drilled. It is expected that this second well will be drilled and cased by the end of September, with both wells to be stimulated in October.

A gas facility is expected to be commissioned during the fourth quarter of 2010. It will have an initial capacity of 10 mmcf/d and will be scalable to 50 mmcf/d.

Butler County, PA: Marcellus Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

Rex Energy Corporation (REXX) recently released an update on the Marcellus Shale in Butler County, PA:

They noted that this area of the Marcellus Shale fairway is liquid rich, resulting in a higher profit margin than the dry gas areas of the play. Additionally, due to the shallower depth and relatively consistent geology in the area, they believe this will ultimately be one of the lower cost areas to drill wells.

For the year-to-date (July 2010), they have completed four new horizontal Marcellus Shale wells in Butler County. In addition, there are five wells drilled and awaiting completion in two wells currently being drilled.

Due to significant improvement in the drilling efficiencies, Rexx Energy Corp. expects to have all of the ten wells of their previously announced plan of drilling to be completed by the time the cryogenic plant commences operations early in the fourth quarter.

In light of the decision not to proceed with the Exploratory Unit, Samson is also seeking permits for two further wells which will protect a private lease from expiration later this year. All of the leases that are subject to drilling permits will form a post -closing settlement with the Buyer and will be settled in December 2010 so long as the drilling permits are valid and the associated leases remain in place.

Rodney #1-14H (27% working interest)
As of 0600 hours CST the Rodney #1-14H was drilling ahead at a measured depth of 16,372 feet and is expected to reach a total depth of 17,225 feet in the next 24 hours. The well path has been maintained within the Middle Bakken Formation and has returned oil and gas shows that are consistent with previous well in the North Stockyard Field. The Rodney #1-14H well is located in Township 154N, Range 99W, Section 14 in Williams County, North Dakota. This is Samson’s fourth Bakken well in the North Stockyard Field. Gary #1-24H (37% working interest)
The Gary well has been drilled and cased to a total depth of 17,727 feet and the fracture stimulation of that well is planned to commence on August 30th. The stimulation is planned to include 20 stages, 5 stages more than the Gene well which returned an IP of in excess of 3000 BOEPD. The stimulation will include the placement of 3 million pounds of proppant. The Gary #1-24H well is located in Township 154N, Range 99W, Section 24 in Williams County, North Dakota. This well was Samson’s third Bakken well in the North Stockyard Field.

Stimulation Operations

Operations to stimulate both the Rodney and the Gary wells are expected to commence the week of August 23rd. Payne County, OK: Woodford Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

August 11, 2010: American Petro-hunter Inc. (AAPH.OB) announced their plans to drill a horizontal oil well in the Woodford Shale on the North Oklahoma Project leases located in Payne County, Oklahoma.

The new well will be a 2,000 foot horizontal well and could recover 1,000-1,200 barrels of oil per day. The well will be drilled on an existing lease so there will be no additional farm-in costs incurred. The spud date is predicted to be sometime near the middle of September.

Currently all efforts at the Project to prove the presence of a large shale reserve have been positive. Preliminary operations and initial drill testing of the potential within a 48 foot thick shale pay zone calculated to produce commercial quantities of oil have been successful to date.

Kodiak Oil and Gas: Bakken Shale

Kodiak Oil and Gas Corp. (KOG) released an update on the Bakken Shale early this morning. A new well has been completed and it is producing around 1,870 Barrels of oil a day:

August 9, 2010- Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. (NYSE Amex: KOG), an oil and gas exploration and production company with assets in the Williston Basin of North Dakota and Montana and in the Green River Basin of southwest Wyoming and Colorado, today provided initial production rates on its recently completed Moccasin Creek (MC) #13-34-28-2H well. This release is provided to update the information concerning this well first reported in the Company's earnings release on August 5, 2010 and in its filing on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2010.

As previously announced, Kodiak successfully completed and flow-tested the MC #13-34-28-2H (Kodiak-operated 59% working interest / 48% net revenue interest) well. The well was completed in 15 stages through a 6,200-foot horizontal wellbore. After flow testing for the past six days, the well has now stabilized sufficiently to report a 24-hour initial production rate.

The MC #13-34-28-2H well recorded 24-hour initial production rates of 1,870 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.1 million cubic feet of natural gas (MMcf) per day, or 2,055 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day. Kodiak completed the 24-hour production test utilizing a 22/64" choke with flowing casing pressure of 2,525 psi. Since the flow test began on August 2, 2010, the well has cumulative production of 6,546 barrels of oil and 4.5 MMcf of natural gas, or 7,298 BOE. During the last four days of full production, the well has produced 5,495 barrels of oil and 3.9 MMcf of natural gas, or 6,140 BOE for an average of 1,535 BOE per day.

Kodiak will next complete the MC # 13-34-28-1H offset well drilled from the same pad. This well is a 9,800-foot horizontal lateral and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2010 with 22 stages in its design.

"To provide comparison to our past wells, our SEC filing date requirement for our second quarter 2010 necessitated reporting on August 5, 2010 of the preliminary flow test rates for our MC #13-34-28-2H," said Lynn A. Peterson, Kodiak's President and CEO. "These preliminary results indicated a very strong well. We are pleased to report that this well is our best well we have completed in the Bakken to-date, when considering that the well is producing on a 22/64th inch choke and that we are observing continued strong pressure. This well again demonstrates Kodiak's improved completion designs. The well further confirms the resource potential of our acreage position in North Dakota, which we estimate has 177 total locations, including de-risked Bakken and developing Three Forks potential. Our Williston Basin position also includes an extension area in Montana, which we estimate having 36 locations. We believe these locations are based on conservative spacing estimates."
