Haynesville Shale Update - 2012 - Comstock Resources (CRK)

Comstock Resources (CRK) recently reported drilling results for natural gas in the Haynesville Shale.

In the East Texas/North Louisiana region, Comstock drilled 64 wells (28.3 net) during 2011, sixty-two of which were Haynesville or Bossier shale horizontal wells. During 2011, Comstock completed 84 (42.3 net) Haynesville or Bossier shale horizontal wells, including 33 wells (22.2 net) that were drilled in 2010. Wells drilled and completed in 2011 were put on production at an average per well initial production rate of 10.7 MMcfe per day. As of December 31, 2011, Comstock had 14 (9.8 net) Haynesville or Bossier horizontal wells waiting on completion.

Butler County, PA - Utica Shale - Rex Energy (REXX)

November 8, 2011 - Rex Energy (REXX) recently gave an update on their Butler County, PA Utica Shale acreage. The Utica Shale is an oil field in Ohio and a Natural Gas Field in Pennsylvania.

In Butler County, we have also completed our first horizontal Utica Shale test well, the Cheeseman #1H. The well flowed at a 24-hour test rate of 9.2 million cubic feet of dry gas per day. The well is currently shut in and is expected to be placed in service in January of 2012

Antrim Shale - Michigan Shale Natural Gas Field

Antrim Shale located in northern Michigan, has been heating up lately. Below is the latest news related to Antrim Shale:

-During the second quarter, Linn Energy, LLC (LINE) entered a new operating area by closing a previously announced acquisition of natural gas properties located in the Antrim Shale of northern Michigan. The acquisition also provides the Company with rights to more than 26,000 net acres in northern Michigan that are prospective in the emerging Utica/Collingwood Shale play, which the Company believes will add future growth potential. Industry development of this shale formation is in the early stages, and LINN is currently evaluating options for its acreage within this area.

- July 27, 2010: One of the last wells drilled into Michigan’s Antrim Shale was completed early last week in Benzie County. A new and deeper natural gas play appears to be unfolding as developers pay record amounts for oil and gas leases and a lone Missaukee well turned out to be a prodigious gas produce. This would be the Collingwood Shale.

Marcellus Shale: Lycoming, PA 2009 SWN

Today, 2/27/09, Southwestern Energy ( SWN ) has announced that they have acquired acreage through mineral rights leasing in Pennsylvania regarding the Marcellus Shale.

In the first quarter of 2009, the company purchased approximately 21,715 net acres in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, for approximately $8.2 million. As a result, Southwestern currently has approximately 137,000 net undeveloped acres in Pennsylvania under which it believes the Marcellus Shale is prospective.

Barnett Shale - Tarrant Denton County Texas

Today, 1/28/09, Carrizo Oil & Gas provided an update on the Barnett Shale natural gas field located in Tarrant County, TX and Denton County Texas.

Since January 1st, 2009 the company has brought eleven new Barnett Shale horizontal natural gas wells on production. The combined daily production from these wells amounts to slightly over 31.5 MMcfe/day gross or 22 MMcfe/day net to Carrizo. President and CEO S. P. "Chip" Johnson, commented, "The initial production rates from these wells meet our expectations for core Barnett locations although right of way and permitting complications delayed them from coming on-stream in December as originally anticipated. Included in these new wells is our first 'stagger stacked' lateral well which was drilled on the Cain lease in southeast Tarrant County. This well tests the concept of placing two layers of horizontal wells in thicker parts of the shale. The well came on production and is performing as well as the other five wells on the lease, providing us encouraging early data to use in optimizing our future Barnett exploitation program. We currently have four rigs drilling in the core of the Barnett, three in southeast Tarrant County and one in Denton County."

Haynesville Shale: Caddo Parish, Louisiana Goodrich Petroleum GDP Well

Goodrich Petroleum ( GDP ) has announced a completion of a new Haynesville Shale well in Caddo Parish Louisiana. 14.5 MMcf's!

GDP has completed its initial horizontal Haynesville Shale well, the Chesapeake Energy Corporation-operated Holland 17H-1, which tested at a rate of approximately 14.5 MMcf per day on a 24/64 inch choke with 6,000 psi. The well, which was drilled to 16,200 feet, had a horizontal displacement of approximately 4,400 feet (3,800 feet cased), and is located in the Company's Bethany-Longstreet area in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Goodrich owns a 50% working interest in the well, Chesapeake owns 40% and Plains Exploration & Production Company owns 10%.

The Company has completed its Estes 2H (100% WI), a James Lime horizontal well on its Cotton South prospect area, which tested at 7.0 MMcf per day on a 35/64 inch choke with 1,500 psi.

Fayetteville Shale: Southwestern Energy SWN 2009

Southwestern Energy ( SWN ) has come out and given their drilling and budget update for the Fayetteville Shale in 2009.

improvements in our well performance in the Fayetteville Shale over the past several
quarters, resulting in remarkable growth in our production levels and, correspondingly, our earnings and cash flow. Meanwhile, the turbulent times in the financial and commodity markets are having a considerable impact on both the national economy and our industry.

As a result, we will enter 2009 with both caution and optimism. We believe the future for Southwestern is very bright and that 2009 will be another record year for our company. The company is well positioned with an extremely strong balance sheet and financial position and an opportunity set that rivals any in our industry with our Fayetteville Shale play,” stated Harold M. Korell, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southwestern Energy.

“In 2009, we will continue to operate 20-21 rigs in the Fayetteville Shale play and, with the improvements in our drilling times, we currently expect to participate in approximately 620 horizontal wells (470 operated), compared to an estimated 520 wells in 2008, as we continue to develop our significant acreage position. As a result of our planned investments, we expect our 2009 production to be in a range of 280 to 284 Bcfe, which is an increase of approximately 48% compared to our expected 2008 levels,” stated Korell.

Marcellus Shale: Rex Energy Provides Update

Rex Energy Corporation (REXX) provided an operational update today on its Marcellus Shale activities and 2009 capital budget.

The company is pleased to announce initial flow rates for its first two vertical test Marcellus Shale wells completed in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. These wells, drilled in the deeper portion of the Marcellus play, had peak flow rates of 400 and 1,200 Mcf per day respectively before being turned into sales. Each well continues to stabilize at daily production rates of 300 - 500 Mcf per day, and the high operating pressures suggest increased production is likely with further production facility optimization. The company's third vertical test well in Westmoreland County has been drilled and will be completed by mid-December.

In Clearfield County, Pennsylvania the company has recently completed drilling its first vertical test well encountering approximately 150 feet of Marcellus Shale formation. The company expects to complete the well in late December. Additionally, in Butler County, Pennsylvania area, the company participated in the drilling of two additional vertical wells with its partner. Both wells are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2009 following installation of the company's gas processing facility.

Marcellus Shale - RRC Range Resources Earnings 10/22

This coming week, the natural gas market will be eyeing Range Resources ( RRC ) as this company will be releasing earnings on Wednesday 10/22/08 at 4pm.

Range Resources is one of the biggest operators in the Marcellus Shale natural gas field and it will be interesting to see what they have to say about operations given the steep drop in natural gas prices. Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) is reporting that it will try to sell its Marcellus Shale stake for 2.5 - 3 billion in cash to raise capital.

Haynesville Shale Mineral Rights: Louisiana Attorney General warns of mineral rights scam

Louisiana Attorney General James "Buddy" Caldwell is warning landowners of a scheme aimed at stealing their mineral rights.

The scam emerged amid increasing demand for drilling leases in the Haynesville Shale, a massive natural gas find made recently in northwest Louisiana and eastern Texas.

The attorney general's office said landowners should be cautious of letters in the mail that contain a check and ask them to sign documents and return them.

"If you are a mineral owner and receive a letter in the mail, with a check included, requesting that you sign a document that appears to be a mineral lease, you should be extremely cautious because you may be permanently signing away valuable mineral rights without realizing it," Caldwell said in a consumer alert.

The attorney general said the contract might contain general power of attorney provisos that would allow the holder to amend the contract even after it's signed to reflect that all mineral assets, even those already in production."

The attorney general encourages all property owners in Louisiana to seek legal advice before signing any documents relating to the sale or lease of mineral rights," the alert said.

Range Resources RRC is out with a Marcellus Shale update this morning.....very nice indeed! They state that their Acreage position is now 1.4 million acres....also they think their high graded acreage position stands at 850,000 acres.

The Haynesville Shale Play Discovery Project is based on shale as the subsurface source of natural gas which is located in Louisiana.

The shale is a rock formation composed of clay-sized particles deposited and buried in the north Louisiana geological area more than 170 million years ago during the Jurassic time.
This area has been one hot play for Natural Gas Companies as this shale could contain a lot of Natural Gas.
Many companies started buying acres of land in and around this area two years ago in hopes to strike it big. Petrohawk was already drilling a gas deposit known as Cotton Valley, a separate deposit that runs roughly 3,000 feet above parts of Haynesville’s deposits, when it became aware of Haynesville in 2006.They must use special technology to access this project as it is below 10,000 feet.
