Cana-Woodford Shale - Devon Energy (DVN)

By Tim - http://oilshalegas.com

Devon Energy (DVN) provides a drilling update for the Cana-Woodford Shale located on Oklahoma.

Moving now to the Cana-Woodford Shale in Western Oklahoma. Our Cana gas plant was back fully operational in December, following repairs of the damage incurred last May from a tornado. This helped us achieve our target exit rate for the Cana of 275 million cubic feet equivalent per day. Fourth quarter net production increased 83% over the year-ago quarter to a record 250 million cubic feet of gas equivalent per day, including 3,100 barrels of oil and 7,400 barrels of natural gas liquids per day. This significant liquids contribution, combined with our low acreage and royalty costs, enable us to generate strong full-cycle returns in the current commodity price environment.

In 2012, we plan to invest some $870 million of capital and drill nearly 200 wells in Cana. Our Cana activity will be focused in the oil and natural gas liquids-rich portion of the core area. Liquids should represent almost 40% of the production stream generated by the 2012 capital program. Cana oil and liquids production is expected to grow over 85% to an average of 16,000 barrels per day in 2012.

From a reserves performance perspective, Cana was a leading growth area for the company in 2011. Extensions, discoveries and performance revisions at Cana accounted for 160 million barrels of oil equivalent of additions. At year end, we had 328 million equivalent barrels booked in the Cana-Woodford. With almost 2 billion barrels equivalent of risked resource potential and more than 5,000 risked locations remaining, we expect Cana to deliver many more years of highly economic production and reserves growth.

Woodford Shale - Exxon Mobil (XOM)

November 5, 2011 - Exxon Mobile (XOM) is now heavily involved in the Woodford Shale as of late 2011. The Woodford Shale and Cana Woodford Shale have been explored by many companies for oil in 2011. Oklahoma residents have been signing away mineral rights leases at a record pace. Exxon Mobile (XOM) had this to say about the Woodford Formation.

"We are also involved in multiple emerging liquids-rich shale plays, the most active of which is the Woodford shale in the southern Oklahoma Ardmore Basin area. To date, we have amassed more than 150,000 net acres in this play through an aggressive leasing and acquisitions program. This leadership position has been built at an attractive cost. As we acquired resources for approximately $0.30 per 1,000 cubic feet equivalent and added the leasehold for under $600 per acre. Our activity in the Woodford Ardmore play has ramped up significantly in 2011, with our operated rig count increasing from 3 to 7 rigs and gross operated production more than tripling since year-end 2010.

In our core development area, peak 7-day gross production rates have averaged 325 barrels per day of crude oil and 3.7 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, with a rich 1,275 BTU gas also yielding significant natural gas liquids, providing an average liquids rate per well of over 750 barrels per day and 2.9 million cubic feet per day of sales gas. We are continuing to ramp up drilling activity and are progressing both marketing and infrastructure plans for the play.

Range Resources Corp. (RRC) : Cana/Woodford Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

The first two completions of the 2010 drilling program in the Ardmore Basin horizontal Woodford play at depths of 7,000 feet have yielded outstanding results. One well completed for an average production rate of 801 barrels of oil and NGLs per day and 2.3 Mmcf per day or 1,176 (362 net) Boe per day. The average rate for the second completion was 1,064 barrels of oil and NGLs per day and 2.7 Mmcf per day or 1,514 (702 net) Boe per day. One operated rig is currently active in the play, along with one non-operated rig. During the quarter, the 5,000-foot deep horizontal Mississippian Lime play in northern Oklahoma recorded another strong completion with average daily production rates of 260 barrels of oil and NGLs and 900 mcf or 410 (318 net) Boe per day. Two additional wells in the play are currently drilling. In addition, Range controls approximately 80,000 (42,000 net) legacy acres that are all held by production in the emerging Cana Shale play in the Anadarko Basin. While still early, it appears that a material portion of our acreage is in the core of the play. Given that all of Range's acreage is held by production, our strategy is to take a "wait and see approach," before determining how to best exploit our acreage position.

Devon Energy Corp. (DVN): Woodford Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

Devon Energy Corp. (DVN) released a positive update on the Woodford shale located in western Oklahoma. They are currently in the process of acquiring a significant amount of additional acreage in this play. Most of this new acreage is primarily term and located in the liquids-rich portion of the play. They are currently running nine operated rigs and will bring additional rigs into the play over the next few months to secure the term acreage.

Devon Energy continues to relay excellent results from Cana-Woodford and believes that the field offers some of the best economics among gas plays in North American shale. In the second quarter, they brought 10 operated wells online with average 24-hour IP rates of 6.8 million cubic feet equivalent per day, including 86 barrels of condensate and 350 barrels per day of NGLs.

Second quarter net production from Cana-Woodford averaged a record 105 million cubic feet of equivalent per day, included in 1,000 barrels per day of condensate and 3,000 barrels of NGLs. This was up 43% on a sequential-quarter basis.

They initiated an in-field [ph] pilot program at Cana-Woodford to help them better understand optimal well spacing. This was a joint project with another operator that consisted of nine total horizontal wells being drilled and completed within one square mile. Five of these wells were spaced at 500 feet apart and the other four wells at 660 feet apart. Excluding the first well in the section that had been producing for some time, the average 30-day IP from the eight new wells was 5.4 million cubic feet equivalent per day, including 46 barrels of condensate per day and 245 barrels of NGLs per day.

Payne County, OK: Woodford Shale Update

By Andrea: http://oilshalegas.com

August 11, 2010: American Petro-hunter Inc. (AAPH.OB) announced their plans to drill a horizontal oil well in the Woodford Shale on the North Oklahoma Project leases located in Payne County, Oklahoma.

The new well will be a 2,000 foot horizontal well and could recover 1,000-1,200 barrels of oil per day. The well will be drilled on an existing lease so there will be no additional farm-in costs incurred. The spud date is predicted to be sometime near the middle of September.

Currently all efforts at the Project to prove the presence of a large shale reserve have been positive. Preliminary operations and initial drill testing of the potential within a 48 foot thick shale pay zone calculated to produce commercial quantities of oil have been successful to date.

Woodford Shale: Newfield Exploration NFX 2009

Newfield Exploration ( NFX ) has come out and given an operational update on the Woodford Shale located in Oklahoma.

The Woodford Shale, located in the Arkoma Basin of southeastern Oklahoma, was Newfield's largest investment region in 2008 and will remain so in 2009. Total Woodford production in 2008 increased 65% over 2007 volumes. Gross operated production from the Woodford in early December exceeded the Company's year-end goal of 250 MMcfe/d. Due to longer lateral completions and efficiency gains, Newfield expects to grow its 2009 Woodford production by about 30%, despite running fewer operated rigs.

"The positive benefits of moving from the 'hold the ground' phase in the Woodford to development mode in 2008 is obvious from the improvement in our finding costs in the Mid-Continent," said Lee K. Boothby, Newfield Senior Vice President. "Our drilling and completion costs in 2008, stated on a lateral foot basis, were 38% lower than in 2007. We have drilled about 250 horizontal wells to date and our lateral lengths continue to grow. We now expect that our average lateral length in 2009 will be about 5,000', compared to just 2,428' in 2007 and 4,436' in 2008. This should result in higher initial production rates, greater recoveries per well and improved finding cost metrics."

Woodford Shale - EPM Evolution Petroleum Gives Update 9/23/08

EPM Evolution Petroleum is out with their latest Woodford Shale Update below. You've probably noticed but my blog has been semi quiet. Ever since the fall of natural gas prices from $14 to $7....news on these shale plays such as the Haynesville Shale, Marcellus Shale, Fayetteville Shale has fallen off a cliff. The natural gas gold rush has subsided for now, but it will be back. Now is the time to buy stocks like Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) and Encana ( ECA ).

"As previously announced, our 2009 capital budget includes initialdrilling in our Woodford Shale projects in Oklahoma and initial drilling in anew project in Texas, both expected to occur late in the fiscal year," addedHerlin. "The 2009 capital budget also provides for up to $3 million in newleasing in the Giddings Field, our Oklahoma gas shale projects and our newTexas project. We have now acquired leases on more than 17,600 net acres inOklahoma and are very encouraged by the drilling results of operators alsodeveloping the shallow and mid-depth Woodford Shale near our leases."

Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) completes Woodford Shale sale ( BP )

This morning Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) is out saying they have completed their asset sale in the Woodford Shale. CHK received 1.7 Billion dollars in cash from Beyond Petroleum ( BP )

Aubrey K. McClendon, Chesapeake’s Chief Executive Officer, commented, “We are pleased to announce the completion of the sale of our Arkoma Woodford properties to BP. This transaction was an important aspect of our ongoing asset monetization program and enables Chesapeake to redeploy capital to our Haynesville, Barnett and Marcellus Shale plays and further improves the company’s capital structure.
“We now turn our focus to negotiating joint venture arrangements in the Fayetteville and Marcellus Shale plays. We anticipate selling 25% of our interest in those two plays using a “PXP-style” transaction in which we receive partial consideration in cash at closing and then receive a tax-efficient carry of development costs over time as wells are drilled. There is strong industry interest in both plays and also in our preferred deal structure. Accordingly, we hope to announce transaction details by the end of the third quarter.”

Woodford Shale -Chesapeake Energy CHK Sells

Chesapeake has announced today that they will be selling 90,000 acres of their Woodford Shale portfolio to BP for 1.75 Billion.

CHK will use the money for other shale plays including The Marcellus Shale, Haynesville Shale.

The Woodford Shale is located in Oklahoma and is considered a medium range Shale Gas Play. I would probably compare it to the Utica Shale although the Utica is still very young.
