Questerre Energy Corporation (QEC) is the first company in Québec to publicly disclose the additives that it uses in its hydraulic fracturing operations.
The information includes the typical concentration of the additive, the main compounds in the additives and the specific and common uses of the compounds. On average, Questerre has used nine of these highly diluted additives that amount to 0.12% of the total fluid used with the remaining 99.88% made up of water and sand. This is less than typical industry concentrations of 0.5%. The information is available on the Company's website at www.questerre.com.
"Questerre is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible and socially acceptable manner," said Michael Binnion, President and Chief Executive Officer of Questerre Energy. "Making the composition of our frac fluids available to the public is just one of the ways we are working to respect the social acceptability of shale gas development in Quebec."
Hydraulic fracturing operations in the Utica shale are conducted at a minimum depth of 1000 metres below the fresh water zones in Quebec. This fresh water is separated from the frac fluids by several layers of steel casing and high quality cement. The highly diluted additives are carefully managed and are commonly found in household products.
"Producing natural gas from Quebec's Utica Shale presents an extraordinary opportunity for Quebec. Billions of dollars in royalties, local employment of over 7500 jobs and the repatriation of the 2 billion dollars that Quebec currently sends to western Canada each year are just a few of the benefits," said Binnion. "Myths from US based political groups which are also used as a source of information by environmental groups in Quebec should not prevent Quebecers from benefiting from this opportunity."
In its ongoing commitment to transparency, Questerre also recently released a video that explains the process of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

Utica Shale Update - Gastem St Jean Well
This is the most recent news I have heard in regarding or drilling activity in the Utica Shale which is located in Quebec.
Gastem (TSX VENTURE:GMR) is pleased to announce that drilling is underway on Questerre et al #1 Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu test well in the St. Lawrence Lowlands. Gastem holds a 20% working interest on this permit and Questerre is Operator with an 80% working interest. The St-Jean North permit, 54,000 gross acres, was obtained by Questerre in 2007 from a third party and Gastem, as a result of a previous agreement with Questerre, has a 20% participating interest.
The St-Jean North permit is adjacent to Gastem's 50% owned St-Jean Block, comprising 198,000 gross acres.

Utica Shale - TLM Talisman Energy Provides Update Report 9/03/08 Quebec Canada Lorraine Shale
Talisman Energy came out yesterday with an operational update on its Utica Shale properties in Quebec Canada.
Talisman Energy Inc. ( TLM ) announced a successful test from the Utica shale in its Gentilly well in Quebec. The Gentilly well is located on the south side of the St. Lawrence River, approximately 100 kilometers south of Quebec City. Talisman holds a 75% interest in the well and is operator.
The well, which is a re-entry to a previously drilled Trenton-Black River well, flowed at 800 mcf/d from one completed interval on a sustained basis during the 18-day test period. At the time of shut in, the well was still cleaning up and pressures and flow rates were constant.
"We are encouraged by the initial results of this vertical well," said John A. Manzoni, President and Chief Executive Officer. "We have additional testing to do on the well, including zones within the Basal Lorraine and Lorraine shale formation, but this is a very promising start to our unconventional program in Quebec."
The Lorraine shale sits on top of the Utica and can be up to 6,500 feet thick. The Utica shale ranges between 300 and 1,000 feet. Early indications show that both the Lorraine and Utica rocks are thick, porous and appear brittle and over pressured, all of which are conducive to artificial fracture stimulation.
Talisman has an extensive land position with an option to earn 760,000 net acres through drilling in Quebec. The Company is in the early stage of evaluating the rock properties and reservoirs. Talisman will test three to four pilot areas over the next 18 months, with up to four additional wells planned prior to year-end.

The Utica Shale Play - Canada 7-09-08
The Utica Shale Play, located in Quebec Canada, has been heating up lately. Several companies are buying up acres in a big way. The leader appears to be Forest Oil Company FST....followed by several small companies which I will be listing later today on my website.
Keep an eye on this shale as it is estimated to hold over 24 trillion cubic feet in Natural Gas Reserves. Action really only started on this shale last year beginning with Forest Oil. Haynesville Shale started I believe in 2005-2006.
For more on the Utica Shale - go to this website http://www.oilshalegas.com/uticashale.html
