Cotton Valley Formation - Haynesville Shale

The Haynesville Shale is not the only exciting area in Texas and Louisiana! A sandstone and shale formation directly above the Haynesville Shale is known as the Cotton Valley Formation. Companies have been drilling the Cotton Valley for along time before they started tapping into the Haynesville Shale.

Located mostly in East Texas, The Cotton Valley shale has been producing big results lately for XTO Energy. Management has said in their latest conference call that this was where most of the growth occurred.
