Wayne County, PA: Marcellus Shale Update

By Andrea:

August 16, 2010: Despite the natural gas drilling ban imposed on Wayne County, PA, Hess Corporation (HES) has already acquired permits for roughly 6 hydraulically fractured Marcellus Shale wells in Wayne County. Hess entered a joint-development partnership with Newfield Exploration Co. (NFX) and together, they own approximately 100,000 acres in northern Wayne County, PA. They received approval in late June and July from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission and DEP to drill 3 Marcellus Shale wells in the Susquehanna watershed. The permits include Scott and Preston townships, as well as Starucca Borough. The company plans to drill horizontal natural gas wells according to the permit applications.
